Tom goes to the market to sell bananas.
Ruꞌdat ꞌliɛdat ljaung fruta en biuꞌ kañkiɛ̀ꞌp.
La gente compra fruta en el mercado.
People at the market are buying fruit.
Peru ni naꞌu taung ruꞌ kꞌias de Tom. Ruꞌdat ljàmbat ruꞌdat ñꞌkjiuyat.
Pero nadie compra los plátanos de Tom. Prefieren comprarle a las mujeres.
But no one is buying
Tom’s bananas.
They prefer to buy fruit from women.
“En biuꞌ kamꞌusganꞌ xiauꞌ ruꞌdat ñꞌkjiuyat lꞌɨ̀ꞌky fruta, “sep ruꞌdat ꞌliɛdat. “¿De nɨk ꞌliɛdat ɛs niñꞌãꞌ?” lariàjaudat ruꞌdat ꞌliɛdat.
“En nuestra comunidad, sólo las mujeres venden fruta,” le dice la gente. “¿Qué clase de hombre es éste?” se pregunta la gente.
“In our community, only women sell fruit,” people say. “What kind of a man is this?” people ask.
Peru Tom nip lakuãꞌp. Siga maꞌa, “¡Kiàngant ruꞌ raꞌkꞌuas! ¡Kiàngant ruꞌ raꞌkꞌuas mꞌãus matã̀ꞌ!”
Pero Tom no se rinde. Sigue gritando, “¡Compren mis plátanos! ¡Compren mis dulces plátanos maduros!”
But Tom does not give up.
He calls, “Buy my bananas!
Buy my sweet ripe bananas!”
Nda ntjuy maꞌau nda mantun de kꞌias de biuꞌ lamɛs. Iɛꞌɛut tsjàu ruꞌ kꞌias.
Una mujer coge un montón de plátanos de la bandeja. Revisa las plátanos cuidadosamente.
One woman picks up a bunch of bananas from the tray.
She looks at the bananas carefully.
Buꞌ ntjuy taung ruꞌ kꞌias.
La mujer compra los plátanos.
The woman buys the bananas.
Mas ꞌliɛdat nẽ̀dat en biuꞌ kakiãung. Ljaung ruꞌ kꞌias de Tom y njàung.
Más gente viene al puesto. Compran los plátanos de Tom y se las comen.
More people come to the stall.
They buy Tom’s bananas and eat them.
Mas nda kamiaꞌay, biuꞌ santsaꞌ ya baꞌu. Tom pɛꞌɛ biuꞌ tamĩ̀n ke datɛjɛꞌ.
Al poco rato, la cesta está vacía. Tom cuenta el dinero que ganó.
Soon, the tray is empty.
Tom counts the money he earned.
Juã̀y, Tom taung saljã̀jãnꞌ, nchaulꞌ danuã y pan. Jũ̀ꞌts ruꞌ nɛp en biuꞌ santsaꞌp.
Luego, Tom compra jabón, azúcar y pan. Pone las cosas en su cesta.
Then Tom buys soap, sugar, and bread.
He puts the things in his tray.
Tom pɛjɛꞌ biuꞌ santsaꞌ en biuꞌ ganã̀p y mã̀ en biuꞌ nꞌeùs.
Tom carga la cesta sobre su cabeza y se va a casa.
Tom balances the tray on his head and goes home.
