Tinigiin Akko isaa wajjiin jirta.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Ishee wajjiin saawan eega ture.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Gaftokko rayaan dhufee ture.

One day the soldiers came.


Rayaan sun saawan fudhatan.

They took the cows away.


Tinigiifi akkoon isaa fiigani dhokatan.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Hamma halkana’uti daggala kessaa dhokatan.

They hid in the bush until night.


Sanaa booda rayaan nideebi’an.

Then the soldiers came back.


Akkoon Tinigii baala mukaa jala dhoksite.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Rayaan tokko garuu Tinigii gubba ejeta garuu inni oto hindubatin ture.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Yeroo halli tasgaba’ee Tinigiifi akkon issa daggala kessa gadi bahan.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Dafani loo’an gara manaa galan.

They crept home very quietly.
