Once upon a time, there lived a happy family.

Iha tempu uluk, moris família ida-ne’ebé kontente.

Era uma vez uma família feliz.


They never fought with each other. They helped their parents at home and in the fields.

Sira nunka baku malu. Sira ajuda sira nia inan-aman sira iha uma no iha to’os.

Eles nunca brigavam um com o outro. Ajudavam seus pais em casa e no campo.


But they were not allowed to go near a fire.

Maibé sira hetan bandu atu labele la’o besik ahi.

Mas estavam proibidos de chegar perto do fogo.


They had to do all their work during the night. Because they were made of wax!

Sira tenke halo sira nia servisu tomak iha iha kalan. Tanba sira halo husi lilin.

Eles tinha que fazer todo seus trabalhos durante a noite, porque eram feitos de cera.


But one of the boys longed to go out in the sunlight.

Maibé labarik mane sira ne’e ida hakarak tebes atu sai durante loron.

Mas um dos meninos desejava sair à luz do dia.


One day the longing was too strong. His brothers warned him…

Loron ida ninia dejezu makaas tebes. Nia maun-alin sira bandu nia…

Um dia esse desejo estava muito forte. Seus irmãos o avisaram…


But it was too late! He melted in the hot sun.

Maibé sira nia esforsu tarde liu! Nia nabeen iha loron manas.

Mas era tarde demais! Ele derreteu com o calor do sol.


The wax children were so sad to see their brother melting away.

Lilin oan sira ne’e triste tebes haree sira nia maun-alin nabeen.

As crianças de cera ficaram muito tristes vendo seu irmão derretendo.


But they made a plan. They shaped the lump of melted wax into a bird.

Maibé sira halo planu. Sira halo forma foun husi lilin isin ne’ebé nabeen tiha-ona sai manu ida.

Mas tiveram um plano. Moldaram o pedaço de cera derretida em cima de um pássaro.


They took their bird brother up to a high mountain.

Sira foti sira nia maun-alin ne’ebé sai ona manu ba iha foho aas ida.

Levaram o irmão pássaro numa montanha bem alta.


And as the sun rose, he flew away singing into the morning light.

Bainhira loron matan sa’e, nia semo dook hakfuik iha loron matan dadeer.

E quando o sol se levantou, ele saiu voando, cantando sob a luz da manhã.
