Bumwi buzuba, baama bakaleta michelo minji.

One day, mama got a lot of fruit.

Ubushiku bumo bamaayo balikwete ifisabo ifingi.


“Tulailya ciindi nzi micelo?” Twakabuzya. “Tulailya masiku” bakavwiila baama.

“When can we have some fruit?” we ask. “We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.

Twaipusha ati, “Ni nshitanshi twalalyapo ifitwalo?” Bamaayo abati, “Tuleelya ifitwalo ubushiku.”


Musyoonto wangu Rahim mulyato. Walabila michelo yoonse. Ulalya michelo minji.

My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.

Ndume yandi Rahim alifunuka. Alyako ku fitwalo fyonse. Aalya ifingi.


“Langa nzyaacita Rahim!” wakoompolola musyoonto wangu. Ndakati “Rahim tamvwi alimwi ulaliyanda.”

“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother. “Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.

“Moneni ifyo Rahim acitile,” efyapundile kandume yandi. Nayasuka nati, “Rahim toomfwa kabili aliitemwa.”


Baama balinyemede akaambo ka Rahim.

Mother is angry with Rahim.

Bamaayo naabamufulilwa saana Rahim.


Aswebo tulinyemede. Pesi Rahim talilekeleli.

We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.

Na ifwe bonse naatumufulilwa Rahim. Nomba Rahim tasakamene.


“Sena tamukoomupa cisubulo Rahim?” Wabuzya musyoonto wangu.

“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.

Akaice kandi kaipusha akati, “Bushe tamwamukande Rahim?”


“Rahim, lino-lino ulausa,” bakacenjezya baama.

“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.

Bamaayo bamusoka ati, “Rahim caalakubipila nombaline.”


Rahim watalika kulimvwa kuciswa.

Rahim starts to feel sick.

Rahim atampa ukuumfwa ukulwala.


“Mwida mulacisa,” waamba Rahim cakupetekezya.

“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.

Rahim atootoosha ati, “Ulufumo lwandi lwalakalipa.”


Baama balizyi kuti eeci cilacitika. Muchelo wamusubula Rahim.

Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!

Bamaayo baalishibe ukuti ifi efyali no kucitika. Ifitwalo filekanda Rahim.


Nikwakainda ciindi, Rahim wakalilekelela. “Nsekainduluki kuba mulyato alimwi,” wakasyomenzya. Toonse twakamusyoma.

Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises. And we all believe him.

Panuma, Rahim alomba ubwelelo kuli ifwe. Alaya ati, “Nshakafunuke na kabili.” Bonse twamusuminisha. Takabwekeshepo icimusango cakuitemwa.
