Um dia, a mamãe trouxe imensa fruta.

One day, mama got a lot of fruit.

Ubushiku bumo bamaayo balikwete ifisabo ifingi.


“Quando podemos comer alguma fruta?,” perguntámos. “Vamos comer fruta esta noite,” disse a mamãe.

“When can we have some fruit?” we ask. “We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.

Twaipusha ati, “Ni nshitanshi twalalyapo ifitwalo?” Bamaayo abati, “Tuleelya ifitwalo ubushiku.”


O meu irmão Rahim é ganancioso. Provou a fruta toda e comeu muita fruta.

My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.

Ndume yandi Rahim alifunuka. Alyako ku fitwalo fyonse. Aalya ifingi.


“Vejam o que o Rahim fez”, gritou o meu irmão mais novo. “O Rahim é malandro e egoísta,” disse eu.

“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother. “Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.

“Moneni ifyo Rahim acitile,” efyapundile kandume yandi. Nayasuka nati, “Rahim toomfwa kabili aliitemwa.”


A mamãe ficou zangada com o Rahim.

Mother is angry with Rahim.

Bamaayo naabamufulilwa saana Rahim.


Nós também ficamos zangados com o Rahim. Mas o Rahim não se arrependeu.

We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.

Na ifwe bonse naatumufulilwa Rahim. Nomba Rahim tasakamene.


“Não vai castigar o Rahim?”, disse o irmão mais novo.

“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.

Akaice kandi kaipusha akati, “Bushe tamwamukande Rahim?”


“Rahim, vai se arrepender em breve,” disse a mamãe.

“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.

Bamaayo bamusoka ati, “Rahim caalakubipila nombaline.”


O Rahim não está se sentindo muito bem.

Rahim starts to feel sick.

Rahim atampa ukuumfwa ukulwala.


“Dói muito a minha barriga,” murmura Rahim.

“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.

Rahim atootoosha ati, “Ulufumo lwandi lwalakalipa.”


A mamãe sabia que isto ia acontecer. A fruta está castigando Rahim!

Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!

Bamaayo baalishibe ukuti ifi efyali no kucitika. Ifitwalo filekanda Rahim.


Mais tarde, Rahim nos pediu desculpa. “Não vou voltar a ser tão ganancioso,” prometeu. E nós acreditamos.

Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises. And we all believe him.

Panuma, Rahim alomba ubwelelo kuli ifwe. Alaya ati, “Nshakafunuke na kabili.” Bonse twamusuminisha. Takabwekeshepo icimusango cakuitemwa.
