Tingi ankakhala ndi agogo ake.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.

Tingi aleeikala naba nakulu.


Amakonda kuweta ng’ombezo.

He used to look after the cows with her.

Aaleafwa banakulu ukusunga in’gombe.


Tsiku lina asirikali anabwera.

One day the soldiers came.

Bushiku bumo abashilika baishile.


Anatenga ng’ombezo kupita.

They took the cows away.

Baasendele In’ gombe no kuya nasho


Tingi ndi agogo ake adathawa.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.

Tingi na banakulu baabutwike.


Adabisala kuthengo mpaka usiku.

They hid in the bush until night.

Baabeleme mu mpanga mpaka bwaila.


Kenako asirikaliwo anabwerera.

Then the soldiers came back.

Elyo abashilika baishile nakabili.


Agogo adabisa Tingi pansi pamasamba

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.

Banakulu baafishile Tingi panshi yamabula.


M’modzi wa asirikali adaika phazi lake pa iye, koma iye adakhala chete.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.

Umo pa bashilika aabikile ulukasa palya pene pali Tingi, nomba Tingi aali fye tondolo.


Kutakhala kotetezeka, Tingi ndi agogo ake adatuluka.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.

Lintu abashilika baile, Tingi na banakulu bafisamwike.


Anabwerera kunyumba mwakachetechete.

They crept home very quietly.

Baile ku n,ganda umutalalila.
