ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਸਨ।। ਅਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਟੂਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਲੰਬੀ ਲਾਈਨ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਸੀ।
My village had many problems.
We made a long line to fetch water from one tap.
ਅਸੀਂ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਸੀ।
We waited for food donated by others.
ਅਸੀਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਦੇਹਾਂ ਜਿੰਦਰਾ ਲਾ ਲੈੋਂਦੇ ਸੀ।
We locked our houses early because of thieves.
ਕਈ ਬੱਚੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਜਾਣਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
Many children dropped out of school.
ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਰ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੌਕਰ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
Young girls worked as maids in other villages.
ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਘੁੰਮਦੇ, ਜਦਕਿ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
Young boys roamed around the village while others worked on people’s farms.
ਜਦ ਹਵਾ ਵਗਦੀ, ਕਚਰੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਾੜਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਟਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
When the wind blew, waste paper hung on trees and fences.
ਲੋਕੀ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਕੱਚ ਤੋਂ ਕੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਜੋ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
People were cut by broken glass that was thrown carelessly.
ਫਿਰ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ, ਟੂਟੀ ਸੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੰਟੇਨਰ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Then one day, the tap dried up and our containers were empty.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਸੱਦਣ ਗਏ।
My father walked from house to house asking people to attend a village meeting.
ਲੋਕੀ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਰਖ਼ਤ ਹੇਠ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਨ ਲਗੇ।
People gathered under a big tree and listened.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਬੋਲੇ, “ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਲ ਕੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ।”
My father stood up and said, “We need to work together to solve our problems.”
ਅੱਠ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਜੂਮਾ, ਇੱਕ ਰੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਤਣੇ ‘ਤੇ ਬੈਠੀ ਚੀਕੀ “ਮੈਂ ਸਫਾਈ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ।”
Eight-year-old Juma, sitting on a tree trunk shouted, “I can help with cleaning up.”
ਇੱਕ ਔਰਤ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਔਰਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਕੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਉਗਾ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।”
One woman said, “The women can join me to grow food.”
ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਖੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖੂਹ ਖੋਦਣਗੇ।”
Another man stood up and said, “The men will dig a well.”
ਸਭ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੀਕਿਆ, “ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।” ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਲ ਕੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ।
We all shouted with one voice, “We must change our lives.”
From that day we worked together to solve our problems.
