Tingi aleeikala naba nakulu.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Aaleafwa banakulu ukusunga in’gombe.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Bushiku bumo abashilika baishile.

One day the soldiers came.


Baasendele In’ gombe no kuya nasho

They took the cows away.


Tingi na banakulu baabutwike.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Baabeleme mu mpanga mpaka bwaila.

They hid in the bush until night.


Elyo abashilika baishile nakabili.

Then the soldiers came back.


Banakulu baafishile Tingi panshi yamabula.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Umo pa bashilika aabikile ulukasa palya pene pali Tingi, nomba Tingi aali fye tondolo.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Lintu abashilika baile, Tingi na banakulu bafisamwike.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Baile ku n,ganda umutalalila.

They crept home very quietly.
