Juba jimo, bamama basendele bipangwa byavula.

One day, mama got a lot of fruit.

Ubushiku bumo bamaayo balikwete ifisabo ifingi.


“Kimyeka kyotusakuja abye bipangwa?” Twaipwizha. “Tusakuja bufuku,” bamama ba kumbula.

“When can we have some fruit?” we ask. “We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.

Twaipusha ati, “Ni nshitanshi twalalyapo ifitwalo?” Bamaayo abati, “Tuleelya ifitwalo ubushiku.”


Nkasami Rahim uji nabwitemwe. Wajako kubyonse bipangwa. Kabiji waja byavula.

My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.

Ndume yandi Rahim alifunuka. Alyako ku fitwalo fyonse. Aalya ifingi.


“Talai byauba Rahim!” nkansami wamulume waita. “Rahim keuvwane kabiji witemwa,” na amba.

“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother. “Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.

“Moneni ifyo Rahim acitile,” efyapundile kandume yandi. Nayasuka nati, “Rahim toomfwa kabili aliitemwa.”


Bamama bamuzhingijila Rahim.

Mother is angry with Rahim.

Bamaayo naabamufulilwa saana Rahim.


Ne atweba twamuzhingijila Rahim. Pano Rahim kechi walomba lulekelo lwamambo ne.

We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.

Na ifwe bonse naatumufulilwa Rahim. Nomba Rahim tasakamene.


“Kechi musa kumukambula Rahim nenyi?” nkansa wamulume waipuzha.

“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.

Akaice kandi kaipusha akati, “Bushe tamwamukande Rahim?”


“Rahim, katatakatu wilekele mambo,” bamama bakambizha.

“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.

Bamaayo bamusoka ati, “Rahim caalakubipila nombaline.”


Rahim watendendeka kuvwa kubela.

Rahim starts to feel sick.

Rahim atampa ukuumfwa ukulwala.


“Munda mwami mubena kukola,”Rahim waamba najiwi jamunshi.

“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.

Rahim atootoosha ati, “Ulufumo lwandi lwalakalipa.”


Bamama bayukile bisakumweka. Bipangwa ke bimukambule Rahim!

Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!

Bamaayo baalishibe ukuti ifi efyali no kucitika. Ifitwalo filekanda Rahim.


Pa kupita kimye, Rahim walombele lulekelo lwamambo.” ke nkabwezhapo ne bwitemwe bwa bibye ne,” wa laya. Kabiji bonse twamunvwina.

Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises. And we all believe him.

Panuma, Rahim alomba ubwelelo kuli ifwe. Alaya ati, “Nshakafunuke na kabili.” Bonse twamusuminisha. Takabwekeshepo icimusango cakuitemwa.
