Kiro Kighuma, mama mwasa nebighuma.
One day, mama got a lot of fruit.
Siku moja, mama alileta matunda mengi.
“Ebighuma thukendibirya’di?” muthwabulya. “Thukendibirya omw’igholho”, mama mwabugha.
“When can we have some fruit?” we ask.
“We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.
“Tutakula matunda lini?” tunauliza. “Tutakula matunda leo jioni,” mama anasema.
Mughalha wethu Rahim n’imweru. Akalyatsa kubuli kighuma, kandi akalya kutsibu.
My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.
Kaka yangu Rahim ni mlafi. Anaonja onja matunda yote. Anakula matunda mengi.
“Tasamalira ekya Rahim abirikolha!” Kaghalha kethu akalere mukabirikira. “Rahim siawithe ngeso.”
“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother.
“Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.
“Angalia Rahim alichokifanya!” mdogo wangu analalamika kwa sauti. “Rahim ni mtundu na mchoyo,” ninasema.
Mama abirihithana oku Rahim.
Mother is angry with Rahim.
Mama amekasirishwa na Rahim.
Nethu thwabirihithana oku Rahim. Kyonga ibwa Rahim iyo sialeghene.
We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.
Sisi pia tumekasirishwa na Rahim. Lakini Rahim haombi msamaha.
“Obo siwendisughira Rahim?” kaghalhakethu akalere mukabulya.
“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.
“Hutamwadhibu Rahim?” mdogo wangu anauliza.
“Rahim, siwukendiyikubyabomo”, mama mwabugha.
“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.
“Rahim, muda si mrefu utajuta,” mama anaonya.
Rahim mwatsuka eriyilhwalisisya.
Rahim starts to feel sick.
Rahim anaanza kuhisi kuumwa.
“Omwanda yayi mukalhuma” Rahim mwabugha omw’abihwehwe.
“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.
“Tumbo langu linauma sana,” Rahim ananong’ona.
Mama abya inyanasi ekikendibyaho. Ebighuma byamamulhuma omwonda. Bikasughira Rahim.
Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!
Mama alijua hili litatokea. Matunda yanamwadhibu Rahim!
Neryo Rahim mwasaba ekighanyiro. “Sinendisasabya mudaku”. Nethu muthwamughanyira kandi thwamikirirya kwamatsira obudaku.
Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises.
And we all believe him.
Baadaye, Rahim anatuomba msamaha. “Kamwe sitakuwa mlafi tena,” anaahidi. Na sote tunamwamini.
