UTingi wayehlala nogogo wakhe.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


UTingi wayejwayele ukwalusa izinkomo nogogo wakhe.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Ngelinye ilanga kwafika amasosha.

One day the soldiers came.


Amasosha athatha izinkomo ahamba nazo.

They took the cows away.


UTingi nogogo wakhe babaleka bayocasha.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Bacasha ehlathini kwaze kwaba sebusuku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Abaye abuya amasosha.

Then the soldiers came back.


Ugogo wafihla uTingi ngaphansi kwamaqabunga.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Elinye lamasosha lamnyathela kodwa wathula.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


UTingi nogogo baphuma sebebona ukuthi kuphephile.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Banyonyoba bagoduka.

They crept home very quietly.
