UTingi wayehlala nomakhulu wakhe.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Wayesoloko enakekela iinkomo kunye naye.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Ngenye imini amajoni afika.

One day the soldiers came.


Athatha zonke iinkomo.

They took the cows away.


UTungi kunye nomakhulu babaleka bazimela.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Bazimela ehlathini kwade kwasebusuku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Ke ngoku aphinda abuya amajoni.

Then the soldiers came back.


Umakhulu wafihla uTingi phantsi kwamahlahla.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Elinye lamajoni labeka inyawo lalo phezu kwakhe, kodwa waye wathula.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Xa bebona ukuba bakhuselekile, uTingi kunye nomakhulu baphuma.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Ke ngoku bachwechwa babuyela ekhaya bethule.

They crept home very quietly.
