“Mme o pheha motoho o monate haholo!” ho rialo Zama.
Kazi uzobuya nini umama. Umnandi umdokwe kamama.
“Umama wenza isidudu esiluncuthu!” utsho uZama.
“Mom makes the best porridge!” says Zama.
Motoho o fa Zama matla sekolong.
“Futhi unginikeza amandla engiwadingayo esikoleni.”
Isidudu sinika uZama amandla okuya esikolweni.
Porridge gives Zama energy for school.
Motoho o se o lokile.
Umdokwe kababa ulungile.
Isidudu sivuthiwe.
The porridge is ready.
Ntate o tshela lebese, ka lerato.
Ubaba uthela ubisi ngothando.
Utata ugalela ubisi, ngothando.
Dad pours the milk, with love.
“Ntate, motoho o hloka tswekere hape,” ha rialo Zama.
“Awumnandanga lo mdokwe! Udinga ushukela.”
“Tata, ndicinga ukuba esi sidudu sifuna ukongezwa iswekile,” utsho uZama.
“Dad, I think this porridge needs more sugar,” says Zama.
“Motoho wa Mme o latsweha ho feta,” Zama a nahana.
Uyacabanga futhi uZama, “Ukube bekungumama, ngabe umnandi lo mdokwe.”
“Isidudu sikamama simnandi kakhulu kunesidudu sikatata,” uyacinga uZama.
“Mom’s porridge tastes much better than Dad’s porridge,” thinks Zama.
“Ntate, o ka ntshella tswekere hape?” ho botsa Zama.
UZama ucela ushukela kubaba.
“Tata, ndingayongeza iswekile?” uyabuza uZama.
“Dad, please can I have more sugar?” asks Zama.
Ntate o fa Zama tswekere hape.
Ubaba uthela ushukela.
Utata wongezela uZama iswekile.
Dad gives Zama more sugar.
“Jo! Ntate! O tshetse letswai motohong wa ka!”
“Wu! Baba! Uthele usawoti!”
“Yhu! Tata! Ugalele ityuwa esidudwini sam!”
“Wu! Dad! You put salt on my porridge!”
“Ntate, Mme o tlo fihla neng hae?” ho botsa Zama.
“Baba, ubuya nini umama?”
“Tata, uzobuya nini umama?” uyabuza uZama.
“Dad, when will Mom be home?” asks Zama.
