この子はカライ、７歳の女の子です。カライの名前はカライの国の言葉のブクス語で「良いもの」という意味です。
This is Khalai.
She is seven years old.
Her name means ‘the
good one’ in her
language, Lubukusu.
Voici Khalai. Elle a sept ans. Son nom signifie « celle qui est bonne » dans sa langue, le lubukusu.
カライは起きるとオレンジの木に話しかけます。「お願い、オレンジの木。大きく育って、私たちにたくさんの熟れたオレンジをちょうだいな」
Khalai wakes up and
talks to the orange tree.
“Please orange tree,
grow big and give us
lots of ripe oranges.”
Khalai se réveille et parle à l’oranger. « S’il-te-plait oranger, grandis et donne-nous beaucoup d’oranges mûres. »
カライは学校まで歩いて行きます。歩きながら、カライは草に話しかけます。「お願い、草たち、もっと濃い緑になってね。カラカラに乾いたりしないでね」
Khalai walks to school.
On the way she talks to
the grass. “Please
grass, grow greener
and don’t dry up.”
Khalai marche à l’école. En chemin, elle parle à l’herbe. « S’il-te-plait herbe, deviens plus verte et ne sèche pas. »
カライは野の花のそばを通ります。「お願い、花たち、ずっと咲いていてね。私が髪に飾れるように」
Khalai passes wild
flowers. “Please
flowers, keep blooming
so I can put you in my
hair.”
Khalai passe vers des fleurs sauvages. « S’il-vous-plait fleurs, continuez à fleurir pour que je puisse vous porter dans mes cheveux. »
学校では、カライは校庭の真ん中にある木に話しかけます。「お願い、樹木さん、枝を大きく広げてね。私たちが木陰で本を読めるように」
At school, Khalai talks
to the tree in the
middle of the
compound. “Please
tree, put out big
branches so we can
read under your shade.”
À l’école, Khalai parle à l’arbre au centre du camp. « S’il-te-plait arbre, fais pousser de grandes branches pour que nous puissions lire sous ton ombre. »
カライは学校の周りをめぐる生け垣にも話します。「お願い、強く育ってね。悪い人たちが中に入ってこられないように」
Khalai talks to the
hedge around her school.
“Please grow strong
and stop bad people
from coming in.”
Khalai parle à la haie qui entoure son école. « S’il-te-plait, deviens robuste et empêche les personnes méchantes d’entrer. »
カライは学校から家に帰ると、オレンジの木のところへ行き訪ねます。「オレンジの木さん、あなたの実は熟れたかしら？」とカライは尋ねます。
When Khalai returns
home from school, she
visits the orange tree.
“Are your oranges ripe
yet?” asks Khalai.
Quand Khalai retourne chez elle de l’école, elle visite l’oranger. « Est-ce que tes oranges sont mûres ? » demande Khalai.
「オレンジの実はまだ青いわ」と、カライはため息をつきます。「また明日ね、オレンジの木さん」とカライは言います。「多分その時には私のために熟したオレンジを用意してくれるわよね！」
“The oranges are still
green,” sighs Khalai.
“I will see you tomorrow
orange tree,” says
Khalai. “Perhaps then
you will have a ripe
orange for me!”
« Les oranges sont encore vertes, » soupire Khalai. « Je te verrai demain oranger, » dit Khalai. « Peut-être que demain tu auras une orange mûre pour moi ! »
