Early one morning Vusi’s granny
called him, “Vusi, please take this
egg to your parents. They want to
make a large cake for your sister’s
wedding.”
한 이른 아침 부시의 할머니가 그를 불렀어요. “부시야, 이 달걀을 부모님한테 가져다 드리렴. 네 누나의 결혼식을 위해 큰 케익을 만들고 싶어하실거야.”
On his way to his parents, Vusi met
two boys picking fruit. One boy
grabbed the egg from Vusi and shot
it at a tree. The egg broke.
부모님께로 가는 길에, 부시는 과일을 따는 두 소년을 만났어요. 한 소년은 부시의 달걀을 잡아 나무로 던졌어요. 달걀은 깨졌어요.
“What have you done?” cried Vusi.
“That egg was for a cake. The cake
was for my sister’s wedding. What
will my sister say if there is no
wedding cake?”
“무슨 짓을 한거야?” 부시가 외쳤어요. “그 달걀은 케익을 위한거였어. 케익은 내 누나의 결혼식을 위한거였어. 결혼 케익이 없으면 내 누나가 뭐라고 하겠어?”
The boys were sorry for teasing
Vusi.
“We can’t help with the cake, but
here is a walking stick for your
sister,” said one.
Vusi continued on his journey.
소년들은 부시에게 장난친 것을 미안해했어요. “케익을 도와줄 수는 없지만, 여기 누나를 위한 지팡이가 있어,” 한 소년이 말했어요. 부시는 여행을 계속했어요.
Along the way he met two men
building a house. “Can we use that
strong stick?” asked one.
But the stick was not strong enough
for building, and it broke.
가는 길에 집을 짓고 있는 두 남자를 만났어요. “우리가 그 튼튼한 막대기를 쓸 수 있을까?” 한 남자가 물었어요. 하지만 그 막대는 집을 지을 만큼 튼튼하지 않았고, 부러졌어요.
“What have you done?” cried Vusi.
“That stick was a gift for my sister.
The fruit pickers gave me the stick
because they broke the egg for the
cake. The cake was for my sister’s
wedding. Now there is no egg, no
cake, and no gift. What will my
sister say?”
“무슨 짓을 한거에요?” 부시가 외쳤어요. “그 지팡이는 누나를 위한 선물이었어요. 과일 따는 아이들이 케익을 위한 달걀을 깨뜨렸기 때문에 그 지팡이를 준 거라구요. 그 케익은 누나의 결혼식을 위한 거였어요. 이제 달걀도, 케익도, 선물도 없어요. 제 누나가 뭐라고 하겠어요?”
The builders were sorry for breaking
the stick.
“We can’t help with the cake, but
here is some thatch for your sister,”
said one.
And so Vusi continued on his
journey.
인부들은 지팡이를 부러뜨린 것에 대해 미안하게 생각했어요. “케익을 도와줄 순 없지만, 여기 누나를 위한 짚단이 있단다,” 한 남자가 말했어요. 그래서 부시는 여행을 계속했어요.
Along the way, Vusi met a farmer
and a cow. “What delicious thatch,
can I have a nibble?” asked the cow.
But the thatch was so tasty that the
cow ate it all!
가는 길에 집을 짓고 있는 농부와 소를 만났어요. “맛있게 생긴 짚단이로구나, 내가 맛봐도 되겠니?” 소가 물었어요. 하지만 짚단이 너무 맛있던 나머지 소가 다 먹어버렸어요!
“What have you done?” cried Vusi.
“That thatch was a gift for my
sister. The builders gave me the
thatch because they broke the stick
from the fruit pickers. The fruit
pickers gave me the stick because
they broke the egg for my sister’s
cake. The cake was for my sister’s
wedding. Now there is no egg, no
cake, and no gift. What will my
sister say?”
“무슨 짓을 한거야?” 부시가 외쳤어요. “그 짚단은 누나를 위한 선물이었어. 인부들이 지팡이를 부러뜨렸기 때문에 그 짚단을 준 거라구. 과일 따는 아이들이 케익을 위한 달걀을 깨뜨렸기 때문에 그 지팡이를 줬구. 그 케익은 누나의 결혼식을 위한 거였어. 이제 달걀도, 케익도, 선물도 없어. 누나가 뭐라고 하겠어?”
The cow was sorry she was greedy.
The farmer agreed that the cow
could go with Vusi as a gift for his
sister. And so Vusi carried on.
소는 욕심부린 것에 미안해했어요. 농부는 소가 누나를 위한 선물로 부시와 함께 가는 것에 동의했어요. 그래서 부시는 계속해서 갔어요.
But the cow ran back to the farmer
at supper time.
And Vusi got lost on his journey.
He arrived very late for his sister’s
wedding. The guests were already
eating.
하지만 저녁시간이 되자 소는 농부에게로 도망갔어요. 그리고 부시는 여행중에 길을 잃었어요. 그는 누나의 결혼에 매우 늦었어요. 손님들은 이미 먹고있었어요.
“What shall I do?” cried Vusi.
“The cow that ran away was a gift,
in return for the thatch the builders
gave me. The builders gave me the
thatch because they broke the stick
from the fruit pickers. The fruit
pickers gave me the stick because
they broke the egg for the cake.
The cake was for the wedding. Now
there is no egg, no cake, and no
gift.”
“어떡하면 좋지?” 부시가 외쳤어요. “달아난 소는 인부들이 준 짚단을 대신한 선물이었어. 인부들이 지팡이를 부러뜨렸기 때문에 그 짚단을 준거야. 과일 따는 아이들이 케익을 위한 달걀을 깨뜨렸기 때문에 그 지팡이를 준거구. 그 케익은 누나의 결혼식을 위한 거였어. 이제 달걀도, 케익도, 선물도 없어.”
Vusi’s sister thought for a while,
then she said,
“Vusi my brother, I don’t really care
about gifts. I don’t even care about
the cake! We are all here together, I
am happy. Now put on your smart
clothes and let’s celebrate this
day!”
And so that’s what Vusi did.
부시의 누나는 잠시 생각하더니 말했어요. “부시, 내 동생아, 나에게 선물은 상관없어. 케익도 상관없다구! 우린 모두 여기 함께 있고, 난 행복해. 이제 네 좋은 옷을 입고 이 날을 즐기자!” 그래서 부시는 그렇게 했어요.
