تِينْغِي يَعِيشُ مَعَ جَدَّتِهِ.

One day the soldiers came.

وَأَخَذُوا اَلبَقَرَ بَعِيداً.
They took the cows away.

هَرَبَ تِينْغِي وَجَدَّتُهُ بَعِيداً وَاختَبَؤُا.
Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.
Tingi na bibi yake walikimbia na kujificha.
وَاخْتَبَؤُا بيْنَ اَلشُّجَيْرَاتِ حَتَّى اللَّيْلِ.
They hid in the bush until night.
Walijificha kichakani hadi usiku.
ثُمَّ عَادَ اَلجُنودُ.
Then the soldiers came back.
Wanajeshi walirudi tena.
خَبَّأَتْ اَلجَدَّةُ تِينْغِي تَحْتَ الأَوْرَاقِ.
Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.
Bibi alimficha Tingi chini ya majani.
وَضَعَ أَحَدُ اَلجُنُودِ قَدَمَهُ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ، لَكِنَّهُ بَقِيَ هَادِئاً.
One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.
Mwanajeshi mmoja alimkanyaga, lakini akanyamaza kimya.
عِندَمَا صَارَ اَلمَكَانُ آمِناً، خَرَجَ تِينْغِي وجَدَّتَهُ.
When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.
Wanajeshi walipoondoka Tingi na bibi yake wakajitokeza.
وَتَسَلَّلَا إِلَى بَيْتِهِمَا بِبُطْئٍ.
They crept home very quietly.
Wakajikongoja kimya kimya kurudi nyumbani.
