Igiturage cyange cyari gifite ibibazo. Twakoze umurongo muremure umwe kuvoma amazi kuva ku iriba rimwe.

My village had many problems. We made a long line to fetch water from one tap.


Twategerezaga ibiryo byatazwe n’abandi.

We waited for food donated by others.


Twafungaga amazu yacu hakiri kare kubera abajura.

We locked our houses early because of thieves.


Abana benshi bataye amashuli.

Many children dropped out of school.


Abana b’abakobwa bakoraga mungo zibindi biturage.

Young girls worked as maids in other villages.


Abahungu bato bazengurukaga aho ubwo abandi bakoraga mu imirima y’abantu.

Young boys roamed around the village while others worked on people’s farms.


Iyo imiyaga yahuhaga, imyanda y’impapuro yitendekaga kubiti n’amafensi.

When the wind blew, waste paper hung on trees and fences.


Abantu bakatwaga n’ibirahure byagunywe nta bwitwararike.

People were cut by broken glass that was thrown carelessly.


Umunsi umwe, iriba ryarumye n’ijerekani byari mo ubusa.

Then one day, the tap dried up and our containers were empty.


Dada wange yagiye inzu ku inzu abaza abantu kwitabira inama y’igiturage.

My father walked from house to house asking people to attend a village meeting.


Abantu bahuriye munsi y’igiti kinini banatega amatwi.

People gathered under a big tree and listened.


Dada wange yarahagurutse aravuga, “Dukwiye gukorera hamwe tugakemura ibibazo byacu.”

My father stood up and said, “We need to work together to solve our problems.”


Juma w’imyaka umunani, yicaye ku igiti aravuga, “Nafasha mu gukora isuku.”

Eight-year-old Juma, sitting on a tree trunk shouted, “I can help with cleaning up.”


Umugore umwe aravuga, “abagore bafatanya nange mu guhinga ibiryo.”

One woman said, “The women can join me to grow food.”


Undi mugabo arahaguruka aravuga, “Abagabo bazacukura iriba.”

Another man stood up and said, “The men will dig a well.”


Twese twavugiye mu ijwi rimwe, “Tugomba guhindura ubuzima bwacu.” Kuva uwo munsi twakoreye hamwe mu ugukemura ibibazo byacu.

We all shouted with one voice, “We must change our lives.” From that day we worked together to solve our problems.
