Tom bærer en kasse med modne bananer.

Tom carries a tray of ripe bananas.

Tom drar til markedet for å selge bananer.

Tom goes to the market to sell bananas.

Folk på markedet kjøper frukt.

People at the market are buying fruit.

Men ingen kjøper Toms bananer. De foretrekker å kjøpe frukt av kvinner.

But no one is buying Tom’s bananas. They prefer to buy fruit from women.

«Her omkring er det bare kvinner som selger frukt», sier folk. «Hva slags mann er dette?» spør folk.

“In our community, only women sell fruit,” people say. “What kind of a man is this?” people ask.

Men Tom gir ikke opp. Han roper: «Kjøp mine bananer! Kjøp mine søte, modne bananer!»

But Tom does not give up. He calls, “Buy my bananas! Buy my sweet ripe bananas!”

En kvinne plukker en klase bananer fra kassen. Hun ser nøye på bananene.

One woman picks up a bunch of bananas from the tray. She looks at the bananas carefully.

Kvinnen kjøper bananene.

The woman buys the bananas.

Flere folk kommer til salgsboden. De kjøper Toms bananer og spiser dem.

More people come to the stall. They buy Tom’s bananas and eat them.

Kassen blir fort tom. Tom teller pengene han har tjent.

Soon, the tray is empty. Tom counts the money he earned.

Deretter kjøper Tom såpe, sukker og brød. Han putter varene i kassen.

Then Tom buys soap, sugar, and bread. He puts the things in his tray.

Tom balanserer kassen på hodet og går hjem.

Tom balances the tray on his head and goes home.
